William Dugdale, a meal man (someone who deals in meal crops, such as oats), issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in Fleet Lane (now Old Fleet Lane), near Fleet Bridge.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1057. Obv inscription: WIL.DVGDALE.MEALE.MAN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALFE / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field); Rev inscription: IN.FLEET.LANE.NEAR.YE.BRIDGE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = W.D / 1663 (in two lines of Roman capitals, in field).
