The Rose
This trade token, worth a farthing, was issued at the Rose tavern, in Field Lane.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1028; Obv inscription: AT.THE.ROSE (around field, in Roman capitals, in field) Device = I.C (in field, in Roman capitals); Rev inscription: IN.FEILD.LANE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A rose (in field).
Field Lane, was demolished to make way for the construction of Holborn Viaduct, see Henry A. Harben, A Dictionary of London (London, 1918). It lay within Middlesex, now in the London borough of Camden, and in the ward of Farringdon Without, in the City of London.
