John Smith issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business at the Mermaid tavern, in Fetter Lane.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1022; Obv inscription: IOHN.SMITH.IN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A mermaid (in field); Rev inscription: FETTER.LANE.1654 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = I.K.S. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
