The Candle
James Waggoner, a tallow chandler (candle maker), issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in Fenchurch Street.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1000; Obv inscription: IAMES.WAGGONER.IN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A man dipping candles (in field); Rev inscription: FANCHVRCH.STREET.1666 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).
There is a record of the will of James Waggyner, Sy Dionis Backchurch, Talloe Chandler, PCC, 1667, and Percival Boyd, [Inhabitants of London]. Society of Genealogists, MS. 12242.
