The Ship Tavern
This trade token, worth a farthing, was issued at the Ship tavern, behind The Exchange (off Cornhill).
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 964; Obv inscription: AT.THE.SHIP.TAVERN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A ship (in field); Rev inscription: BEHIND.THE.EXCHANGE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = C.W.Y. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
The Exchange (Royal Exchange), was off Cornhill, in Broad Street Ward and Cornhill Ward, in the City of London.
