This trade token, worth sixpence, was issued for a business in Dowgate Ward, City of London.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 852; Obv inscription: 6D (in Roman capitals, in field); Rev inscription: AT.DOWGATE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = S.P (in field, in Roman capitals).
The issuer may be Sarah Paggan, who issued a named token in Dowgate, see NN17173 in the museum collection. There is only one other example of a sixpence token known to have been issued, see Boyne reference London number 2198, in George C. Williamson, Trade tokens issued in the Seventeenth Century; a new and revised edition of William Boyne's work (London, 1889, vol. 1).
