The Red Cross
This trade token, worth a farthing, was issued at the sign of the Red Cross in Cow Lane (now Smithfield Street), Smithfield.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 773; Obv inscription: AT.THE.RED.CROS (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A cross (in field); Rev inscription: IN.COW.LANE.58 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = T.A.T. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
The issuer is likely to be; Thomas Tunman of St Sepulchre, Grocer; 1st wife Anne Gray, 2nd Joan Pool 1665, 3rd Anne -(?); will, PCC, 1670 , see Percival Boyd, [Inhabitants of London]. Society of Genealogists, MS. 58217).
