The Rose and Crown
Francis Turner issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business at the Rose and Crown tavern in Charter House Lane (now part of Charterhouse Street).
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 569; Obv inscription: FRANCIS.TVRNER.IN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A rose and crown (in field); Rev inscription: CHARTERHOVSE.LANE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = F.S.T. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
Modern Charterhouse Street lies, in the ward of Farringdon Without in the City of London, and in the London borough of Islington.
