The Blue Boar
Abraham Hudson, an apothecary, issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in Chancery Lane, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 506; Obv inscription: ABRA. HVDSON. APOTHECARY. AT (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = The Apothecaries' Arms (in field); Rev inscription: THE. BLEW. BOAR. IN. CHANCERY. LANE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A boar (in field).
The arms of the Worshipful Company of Apothecaries are: Azure, Apollo, the inventor of physic, proper with his head radiant holding in his left hand a bow and in his right hand an arrow, or supplanting a serpent argent (J.
