The Sun
George Wade issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business at the Sun tavern in Cateaton Street (now Gresham Street).
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 488; Obv inscription: GEORGE.WADE.AT.YE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = The sun in splendour (in field); Rev inscription: IN.CATEATEN.STREET (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = G.R.W. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
Cateaton Street was amalgated with other streets to form Gresham Street in 1845. Gresham Street lies in Cheap Ward, Coleman Street Ward and the ward of Cripplegate Within, in the City of London.
