The Whtie Bear
Daniel Bertwissell issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the sign of the White Bear, in Bride Lane, off Fleet Street.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 416; Obv inscription: DANIELL.BIRTWISSELL.AT (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A bear, over it WHITE (text in Roman capitals above sign, in field); Rev inscription: BEARE.IN.BRIDE.LANE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY / 1666 (in four lines of Roman capitals, in field).
