The Mermaid
This trade token, worth a half penny, was issued at the Mermaid Tavern in Bread Street, Bread Street Ward, City of London.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 396; Obv inscription: AT.THE.MEARMAYD.TAVERN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A mermaid (in field); Rev inscription: IN.BREAD.STREET.1665 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = I.S.C. ½ (triad of initials in Roman capitals with ½ below, in field).
