The Queen's Head
This trade token, worth a half penny, was issued at the coffee house in Bishopsgate Street (now Bishopsgate), Bishopsgate Ward, City of London.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 264; Obv inscription: IN.BISSHOPS.GATSTREET (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A full faced crowned bust (in field); Rev inscription: HIS.HALFE.PENNY.66 (around field, in Roman capitlals) Device = A monogram (in field).
There is another similar token in the museum collection, NN16519. See also Lillywhite, London Coffee Houses, 1963, No. 1593; the coffee house is known to have been used for masonic meetings.
