The Lion
Richard Dowding issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at, the White Lion tavern in Bishopsgate Street (now Bishopsgate), Bishopsgate Ward, City of London.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 229; Obv inscription: RICHARD.DOWDING.YE.WHIT (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A lion rampant (in field); Rev inscription: IN.BISHOPSGATE.STREET (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY / 1670 (in four lines of Roman capitals, in field).
