The Queen's Head
This trade token, worth a farthing, was issued for the Queen's Head tavern in Billingsgate, Billingsate Ward, City of London.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 197; Obv inscription: AT.THE.QVEENS.HEAD (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = Bust of the Queen of Bohemia (in field); Rev inscription: AT.BILLINGSGATE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = R.A.C. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
There is another similar token in the museum collection, 96.66/157, though from a different issuer. The issuer of this token has been identified as Robert Cash, see Rogers 1928a p.63, 1928c pp.69-7, who had previously been the proprietor of the Mermaid, suggesting he changed the name of his tavern.
