The Hart's Horn
George Sherley issued this trade token, worth a half penny, at the Harts Horns tavern in Basing Lane (now part of Cannon Street).
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 150; Obv inscription: GEORGE. SHERLEY. AT. YE. HARTS (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A pair of harts' horns (in field); Rev inscription: HORNS.IN.BASING.LANE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = G.A.S. ½ and four stars (triad of initials with sign above and ½ below, in field).
Basing Lane lies in Cordwainer Ward and Bread Street Ward, in the City of London.
