The Woolcard
Thomas Armstrong issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in Basinghall Street, under the sign of Sir Thomas Gresham.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 134; Obv inscription: THO.ARMESTRONGE.AT.YE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = a man holding a wool-card [Boyne has book] (in field); Rev inscription: IN.BASING.HALL.STREET (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY / 1668 (in four lines of Roman capitals, around field).
