The Royal Oak
Francis Morley issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the Kings Head tavern in the Barbican.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 120; Obv inscription: FRANCIS.MORLEY.AT.THE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = Head of King Charles and crown in the royal oak (in field); Rev inscription: IN.BARBICAN.1668 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALFE / PENY / F.M.M (in four lines of Roman capitals, with triad of initials as bottom, in field).
The Barbican is in Aldersgate Ward and the ward of Cripplegate Without, in the City of London.
