The Swan and Sugar Loaf
This trade token, worth a half penny, was issued at for a business at the sign of the Swan and Sugar Loaf in Aldersgate Street, Aldersgate Ward, City of London.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 38; Obv inscription: THE.SWAN.AND.SVGAR (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A swan, over it a sugar-loaf (in field); Rev inscription: IN.ALDERS.GATE.STREET (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = C.S.I. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
