The Wheatsheaf
Nathaniel Goosly issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in Abchurch Lane. The sign of the wheat sheaf was commonly used by bakers.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2; Obv Inscription: NATHANIELL GOOSLY (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A wheat sheaf (in field); Rev inscription: IN.ABCHVRCH.LANE.1666 (around field) Device = HIS / HALF / PENNY (in three lines of cursive script, in field).
Abchurch Lane straddles Langbourn Ward, Candlewick Ward and Walbrook Ward, in the City of London.
