Plate, thames conservancy enamel boat licence plate
Enamel boat licence plate. Oval shaped with two nail holes, one at top and one at bottom. White enamel with black writing 'THAMES CONSERVANCY' in outer oval. Inside oval '143' above a line, '4' below the line 'AVAILABLE UNTIL 31ST DECEMBER 1933'. Recovered from the Thames foreshore at Bull Wharf. The Thames Conservancy was a historical body responsible for the management of the River Thames. Founded in 1857, in 1974 the Conservancy was taken into the Thames Water Authority.
