Sample jar, ink nuts sample
Sample of 'ink nuts' (oak galls) imported through London's docks, probably from Turkey. Oak galls contain large amounts of tannic acid and have traditionally been used to make ink, or for dyeing. Although galls appear on oaks in the UK they are relatively low in tannin content.
