Bowl
This shiny, bright orange, samian ware bowl, was made in France in 100-125 CE and imported to Britain. Samian ware was popular in Roman London, reflecting the busy, cosmopolitian nature of this trading settlement - archaeologists have found this type of pottery in shops, homes and warehouses by the river. The bowl is decorated with images of sea-monsters, cupid faces, people and baskets of fruit, and would have been used to serve food at formal dinners.
