Coin, nummus AE3
A copper alloy nummus of Crispus. Crispus was proclaimed Caesar (Crown Prince) by his father, Emperor Constantine I, in AD 313. He was never to become emperor and was executed on his father’s orders in AD 326. The back of the coin depicts an altar. This coin was minted in Lugdunum (modern day Lyon, France), AD 321.
Obv: Cuirassed and laureate bust of Crispus, facing right. Obv inscription: CRISPVS NOB CAES. Rev: A globe set on an altar inscribed VO TIS XX, with three stars above. Rev inscription: BEATA TRANQVILLITAS, CR in field, PLG in exergue.
