Tankard
Tankard, the handle is marked on the thumbplate with the letter ‘I’. There is a crowned ‘W.R.’ verification mark and ‘pint’ label just below the rim to the left of the handle. Part of the body is missing but the outline of an engraved cartouche.No visible marks. Date: c. 1830-40.
Recovered from a building site at Nos.20-28 Gresham Street. Presented to the Guildhall Museum in 1959 and recorded in the Guildhall Museum Excavation Registers under ER 471B with ‘a group of 19th century tankards’.
