Post-Medieval — 1740-1760; 18th century
Pint capacity tankard
There is a circular touch inside the base by Robert Parr, London, who received his freedom and opened his shop in 1703. Parr worked in Greek Street, Soho from 1763 and died in 1767. His touch of a bearded man with cartouches above and below inscribed ‘OLD THO. PARR’ and ‘AGED 152’ with the initials ‘R’ and ‘P’ refers to an ancestor who was reputed to have lived between 1483 until his death in 1635. (A mural tablet in his memory at the Great Wolaston Chapel, Shropshire, gives fuller detail.) The Apple Tree in Warder Street (Old Soho) in the parish of St. Ann's-in-the-Fields is not recorded in Lillywhite. See Forsyth, with Gadd 2017, cat. no. 70, p. 49.
