Archaeology — Saxon-Norman; early 11th century
Mount, stirrup mount
Copper alloy mount from a stirrup decorated with two interlaced animal heads. It would have decorated the attachment of the stirrup to its strap and also protected the leather of the strap from wear. There are three holes for riveting the mount to its strap. The Vikings used horses in war more than the Anglo-Saxons did.
