Emmeline Pethick-Lawrence
Portrait of Emmeline Pethick Lawrence (1867-1954), co-editor of the Votes for Women newspaper and business manager & Treasurer of the Women's Social and Political Union. The portrait is signed FMU, and probably refers to the artist Frances Mabelle Unwin. Emmeline proved a remarkable fund-raiser for the Women's Social and Political Union. She was also arrested four times for her militancy and served over four months in prison, her last conviction in 1912 for conspiracy to incite violence.
