Post-Medieval — 15th - 16th century
Unknown
Toy flagon or ewer. This pear-shaped lidded ewer (lid missing) was cast in three parts from the same mould. The body is decorated with alternate bands of beading and hatching. The foot is decorated with five concentric circles, scrolls, pellets and and the numerals IXII. The handle is s-shaped and has a diamond section and a trefoil terminal. This toy ewer imitates full-size versions which would have been used for pouring water for washing diners' hands after meals. Reference: Forsyth, H. & Egan, G. (2005): Toys, Trifles & Trinkets.
