Oval cornelian intaglio depicting a warship containing four marines. The bow of the ship is shown with a swan figurehead and there is a rudder to the rear. The type of ship depicted is similar with those shown on coins of Allectus and on the Arras medallion. The face of the stone is slightly convex and the underside is similarly curved with straight angled sides.
The nature of the subject depicted, indicates that the finger-ring may have belonged to an officer of the fleet. The engraved intaglio was used to mark the sealing on official documents.
