Gerard the Giant sign
This wooden painted house sign in the form of a giant figure, 'Gerard the Giant', stood in a niche on the front elevation of Gerard’s Hall, Basing Lane, in the City of London. Gerard's Hall was formerly the residence of Sir John Gisors, Lord Mayor of London in 1245. Legend had it that a giant had lived in the building. A medieval crypt on the site survived the Great Fire of 1666 but was removed in 1852 as part of a street-widening scheme.
