Post-Medieval — 17th century; 1636-1680
Porringer, tableware
A small, single-eared porringer with a plain, straight-sided bowl (now slightly damaged) and a central boss accentuated by a turned circle. There are distinctive turning marks underneath. The trefoil-shaped ear has crescent and heart-shaped piercings. The crescent touch of William Mabbott, London, OP3029, LTP 69 can be seen on the underside. Mabbott was made free in 1636; opened his shop in 1644/45 and died in 1680. His [re-struck] touch, No. 69 on the first touchplate introduced after the Great Fire of London is shown here for comparision. The image is derived from an epoxy resin replica in the Pewter Society’s collection. Date: 1670-1680.
Similar to porringer 8131 above. See also No. 8126 for a larger, well marked porringer by Mabbott.
