Ink pot
An ink pot dated to the 16th or 17th centuries. Vessels of this general type in lead, horn, leather and wood were used for ink. Lead was particularly favoured since 'it was little affected by the iron-gall ink' (see section on ink pots in Finlay, M., Western Writing Implements in the Age of the Quill Pen (Carlisle, 1990).
