Post-Medieval — Late 17th century; c. 1670-1700
Cup, caudle cup
Caudle cup (modified into a jug). The vessel is decorated with female bust, three-quarters profile, flowers and a scrolling pattern of dots. The reeded rim has been worked by hand to form a small spout and the handle is missing. The touch in the base has a diamond-shaped frame with the initials ‘I’ and ‘I’ with the number ‘6’ above and ‘8’ below – for (16)68, the mark of Jonathan Ingles, London, OP2525, LTP 19 and 170. Ingles was free in 1668 and opened his shop in 1670. (See also notes under No. A20905 above). Date: late 17th century.
Although also of small size, this cup or ‘jug’ is ‘one size’ larger than Nos. 8176 and A10865 above, possibly also made by Ingles.
