Whistle
Bone whistle formed from longitudinal slice through a bovine, horse or red deer long bone. The bone has been cut and lathe turned into a whistle. The rounded mouthpiece is chamferred on one side to which the lower lip of the players is applied, and houses the blow hole. The fipple is missing. The pipe extends only part way down the bone, the remainder is solid and tapers towards an elaborately lathe-turned finial. There is a round hole through the shaft just below the pipe chamber, probably for suspension and there is a circumferential groove extending from, and encompassing, this hole.
