Receiver; distallation apparatus
Red earthenware vessel with internal lead glaze of unknown source. The deep bowl has a bevelled edged rim and sharply carinated horizontal flange. Probably used as a distillation base for an alembic. Special vessels were made for distilling, and were used 'not only by apothecaries for drawing out salubrious waters for restoring health to men, but also by women for making their salves [ointments] and paints.'
