Post-Medieval — Tudor; 16th century
Headdress frame
Curved headdress frame made from wire. At each end of the wire is a small ball, presumably to make the frame more comfortable to wear. The wire has been twisted into a loop on each side and separate , thinner pieces of wire have been twisted around the ends above the ball terminals. Headdress frames were curved to fit closely around the head to keep a textile headdress in place. Different shapes of headdress were fashionable at different times. Curved headdresses (also known as French hoods) were common from the 1520s.
