Construction of timber framework for Embankment with piles of timber lying on shore in foreground & men working on shore & timber frame/scaffolding. Barges & steam boats are visible on river & in distance is Westminster Bridge & the Palace of Westminster. See 91.175/1 for view looking East.
Painting commissioned by donor's grandfather Capt. George Ernest Augustus Ross, stockbroker who died in early 1900s and had this and other London views painted: in particular buildings that were to be demolished. eg 'Sir Paul Pindar' tavern.
