Holborn Viaduct from Farringdon Street
Holborn Viaduct from Farringdon Street. Carriages, horsemen and cattle pass under the viaduct. This watercolour is by the architect William Haywood and shows an alternative design for the viaduct. The piers, for instance, appear to be of porphyry or red granite. As built, the piers are buff granite and polygonal, rather than circular, in section.
