Join Delaine Le Bas, Dan Turner and Corrina Eastwood as they discuss their experience navigating cultural institutions with their Romani identity centre stage.

This event is part of a curated series of talks, performances and workshops that expand upon our By Appointment Only display at London Museum Docklands. This series invites visitors to engage deeper with themes of visual activism, identity and the lived experiences of British Romani artists.

This conversation will explore the artists’ lived experiences of being Romani in the contemporary moment and their art practices as acts of visual activism.

It will reflect on the hierarchies of knowledge in institutional spaces, and the various impacts institutionally formed narratives can have on a community’s artistic expression and agency. From museums to art galleries, parliament to the media.

The conversation will examine the connection between such narratives and the ongoing experiences of marginalisation, oppression and racism felt and experienced by Romani people.

This conversation will be chaired by Curator of London Museum Docklands, Shereen Lafhaj. This will be followed by a Q&A and chance to meet the artists and explore the display.
