Garibaldi in London: Arrival of the General at Stafford House
This print shows the arrival of the Italian political leader Garibaldi at Stafford House in 1864. He received a rapturous welcome from the huge crowds gathered outside. Many supported the parliamentary reforms demanded by Liberals, Radicals and the trade unions to allow more working class men to vote. Garibaldi was a hero to political reformers because of what he had done to unite Italy in 1860.
