Paintings, Prints & Drawings — 1929
Buckingham Palace
In Yoshio Markino's tranquil print, pedestrians stroll through St James's Park at night. Buckingham Palace looms in the background, appearing almost transparent above the shadowy trees.
The artist Yoshio Markino was born in Mikawa on the main Japanese island of Honshu. He lived in London from 1897 to 1942 during which time he developed a unique style of depicting city life, heavily influenced by Japanese printmaking.
