Farm buildings, Tottenham Court Road
Farm buildings, the rural hinterland around Tottenham Court Road with a cart in the foreground. Inscribed on the back, All sorts of fine ale Brandy Rum home brewed [in one hand, poss Grimm's] + 4 Feb 95 [another hand, poss that of the purchasor, who acquired these leaves after Grimm's death in 17974 ?]. The leaf is from a sketch book and is inscribed no. 54. This item also bears the collector's mark of Sir Bruce Ingram (editor of the Illustrated London News) who died in 1963. According RM Clay, Samuel Hieronymus Grimm (London, 1942), these sketches come from a sketch book with a title page 'Studies from Nature by S. H. Grimm vol XII - begun ye 8th of July 1771, finished ye 20th September 1772.' (p. 68). There are other leaves in the Guildhall, Prints & Drawings Department.
