Paintings, Prints & Drawings — 1827
East Gate Park, Regent's Park
One of the grand entrances to Regent’s Park, the architectural historian James Elmes described the East gate (or Gloucester Gate) as ‘a composition in the Italian or Palladian style of architecture’ and as being ‘harmonious in design, and graceful in proportion.’ This wash drawing by Thomas Hosmer Shepherd was made as an illustration to the topographical publication, ‘Metropolitan Improvements’ (1827), which includes many illustrations of the new buildings around Regent’s Park.
