Grocers' Hall, Poultry
This wash drawing, a design for Thomas Hosmer Shepherd’s book ‘London in the Nineteenth Century’ (1829-31) depicts the third Grocers’ Hall, home to the Worshipful Company of Grocers. The view is from Grocers’ Hall Yard, just north of Poultry in the City. The previous building (rebuilt after the Great Fire of London) was the original home of the Bank of England in the early eighteenth century. The Hall has since been rebuilt twice. The present building (1970) now faced Princes Street.
