York House, St James's Park
Built in 1825 for The Prince Frederick, Duke of York and Albany, and sold on his death in 1827 to George Granville Leveson-Gower, 1st Duke of Sutherland, York House (now known as Lancaster House) is seen here from St James' Park where soldiers and smartly-dressed couples promenade and a child plays with a hoop and stick. This wash drawing is a design for the topographical publication, Metropolitan Improvements.
