Paintings, Prints & Drawings — 1818-01-10
Scotland Yard
Scotland Yard, opposite the Admiralty, in Whitehall, is show here in a very dilapidated state. This drawing was made only a few years before the site was demolished. An inscription on the back of the drawing reads: 'all pulled down about 1820 for the purpose of making the improvements in Westminster nearly opposite the Admiralty.'
The topographical draughtsman Robert Blemmell Schnebbelie was active as an artist from 1803 and exhibited at the Royal Academy occasionally. In 1847 he was found dead in Camden, having died in poverty.
