Goldsmiths Cottage in Roehampton Lane, Putney Heath
Goldsmiths Cottage in Roehampton Lane, Putney Heath. A cottage reputed to have belonged to Oliver Goldsmith, writer (1728-74). The hamlet of Roehampton, being close to Richmond Park, was a favourite place of retirement for well-to-do Londoners, and also the site of several large mansions, including those of Lord Besborough and the Marchioness of Downshire. Schnebbelie was active 1803-21, d. 1849 of starvation.
