Peerless Pool
View of Peerless Pool, Moorfields, Finsbury. Signed in ink at bottom right. Originally known as 'perillous pool' because of the high rate of drowning, the pool was built in 1743 by William Kemp from a natural pond along with a large fish pond and the 'Cold Bath'. In 1850 the pool was closed and afterwards built over. Peerless Street marks its northern boundary and Bath Street, its western one. Inscribed in pencil on verso: 'F. Nash 1782-1856'.
