Frognall, Hampstead
Sketch of street scene - 'Frognall, Hampstead'. Dated on reverse 'May 12 1823 / 10 before 9'. A quiet grove, its name deriving from Frogen-hall, the ancient manor house of Hampstead, which was later known as Montague Grove. The street is now completely altered, with recently built houses including Maxwell Fry's 'The Sun House', designed in 1936. Its name is now Frognal Way. The tower and spire of St John's Church, built 1745-7, can be seen in the background.
